What is rinsing?

Rinsing removes the cleaning solution and the soil it holds from the part after washing. Poor rinsing is the most common cause of spotting, staining and residue failures — the cleaner did its job and the rinse put the dirt back. Counter-flow and DI final rinses solve most of it.

A rinse tank is a diluting stage, and it only works if it stays dilute. Once the rinse carries a percentage of dragged-out cleaner, parts leave wet with chemistry that dries into a visible film. That film is very often mistaken for a cleaner failure.

Counter-flow rinsing fixes it structurally: fresh water enters the final rinse and overflows backwards into the earlier stages, so the part always meets progressively cleaner water and the water always meets progressively dirtier parts. It cuts water consumption while raising final rinse quality.

For cosmetic or high-cleanliness work the last rinse should be deionised. Ordinary tap water leaves dissolved solids behind as spots when it evaporates — the cleaner is blameless; the water is not.
